I'm still rethinking the look, i'm thinking of replacing the checkerboard patterns with either subtle random noise or actual grass textures.
I do still kind of like the checkerboards, but feel they might work better in a neo-retro 3D Platformer (The Kiwi's Tale 3D?) then in a sports game.
