Put your iPod on shuffle: First 10 songs that play

Heh, I don't actually have an iPod. It's kind of a condescending question that assumes we're all Capitalistic Apple fans.

I do use iTunes on my PC however, so I'll do a shuffle and the ten songs I get are:

  1. Hold on Tight - Electric Light Orchestra
  2. On Her Majesties' Secret Service - John Barry Orchestra
  3. Ode to Oren Ishii - Kill Bill v1 Soundtrack
  4. Duke Nukem 3D theme
  5. Lately - David Gray
  6. Flip strings - Kill Bill v1 Soundtrack
  7. She's an Angel - They might be giants
  8. Strike Mission - The Fat Man & Team Fat
  9. A View to a Kill - Duran Duran
  10. The Bird has Flown - Deep Purple

Hmmm.. probably couldn't get a more bizarre mix of genres if you tried.

A letter to someone who has hurt you recently

This is.. one I can't really answer. I'm not in the habit of holding grudges so I can't think of anyone I want to have a go at.

Except for the guy who made I want to be the guy. Your game bruises my ego through it's absurdly masochistic difficulty level. Thanks a lot.

How you found out about Blogger and why you made one

It's been pretty much ages since I've even had a Blogger. Does anyone use that any more?

I can't remember the exact reason why I set one up. I didn't have a web presence at that time because my previous site was taken offline, since I wasn't paying for hosting and the guy I was getting hosting from also wasn't paying.

I guess I really just wanted to be able to journal my gamedev efforts online and talk about the random goings on in my life. In fact I think my first blog post was, of all things, about an inflatable CPR training doll I got from a First Aid course.

Another picture of you and your friends

This a picture taken during our awesome trip to the world Bookcrossing convention in Christchurch, which I've stolen from Kirsty's blog. (If you weren't already aware, Bookcrossing is a vast left wing conspiracy to indoctrinate the masses through subliminal messages left in abandoned books worldwide).

From left to right:

  • Kevin, fellow techno-geek and book-lover from Australia.
  • Jay, Kirsty's BBFF (Best Bookcrossing Friend Forever). Wonderful person who we both get on with very well.
  • That's my Kirsty :)
  • And that's me, looking as unphotogenic as ever. I think those were my first pair of Chuck Taylors.
  • Pete, true blue Aussie Taxi driver and travel writer. Always cheerful and very generous.
  • Janice, who was down from the UK for the convention. Lovely person, very friendly.

Songs you listen to when you are Happy, Sad, Bored, Hyped, Mad

To be honest, I don't really listen to songs depending on mood. I just listen to whatever is in my collection.

My iTunes collection is a highly bizarre mix containing Michael and Janet Jackson, Eminem, David Gray, Queen, Deep Purple, Dragonforce, ELO, They Might be Giants, Homestar Runner, Duran Duran, film and game soundtracks and even a Christmas compilation CD. Which of course I listen to with iTunes DJ so it's all jumbled together.

Something you’re proud of in the past few days

I don't really like to think of myself as being "proud" of things, but you could say I was proud about the anonymously posted 'best free game ever' feedback on Derelict from a couple of days back.

Even though such feedback is few and far between, and even though it's blatantly not true, hearing from those who have enjoyed playing the games I made helps to make it all worth it.

Short term goals for this month and why

Asides from my employment goals and actually writing the 30 blog posts, my main goal for the month is to completely finish implementing the functionality needed to bring at least the first level of the Kiwi's Tale across to XNA.

So far, it's going quite well. The Kiwi cannot shoot yet but can run, jump and swim and the controls feel far more natural than in the original BlitzBasic version. XBox 360 controller support is a lot better too, you can play with both the analogue thumbstick and DPad.

Edit - I've decided to commit to the six week one hundred push ups programme, though that won't be finished until near the end of September.

A picture of someone/something that has the biggest impact on you

The computer. Perhaps an odd choice, but more than almost anything else has defined who I am.

If I had been born a century ago I suspect I would have had a much harder time in life. My lack of physical strength, dexterity and charisma would have made it difficult for me to have been successful in almost any occupation at the time. But the computer is something I can understand and use well, has allowed me to become both an Artist and a Professional, and, God willing, will keep me in employment for the rest of my life.

The decision of my parents to purchase a Commodore 64 when I was two was perhaps the best thing they could have ever done for my future.

Favorite super hero and why

Batman.

I think explaining myself further is redundant.

Though I will say that my favorite superheroes tend to be of the powerless, or at least semi-plausible, variety. Punisher, Kick Ass, Rorschach, Captain America etc. You could technically count James Bond and Dexter in that list too. Does that imply that I believe in the power of the individual to enact justice without the supernatural, or that I simply prefer a smaller suspension of disbelief while viewing those stories? Who knows.
